Finding Better Clothing and Accessories

When it comes to picking out clothing for your newborn baby girl, it can be exciting. After all, baby girl clothing is cute with all the ribbons, sparkles, and more. However, just because it looks cute doesn't necessarily mean that it's safe for your newborn to wear. Here are four tips for dressing your newborn baby girl safely:

1. Check That Everything Is Secure: One of the first things you want to do is check that everything is secure. This includes buttons, beading, ribbons, and more. If anything comes off easily or seems to be loose, then it is a choking hazard that you will want to avoid. 
2. Check the Neckline:  The neckline should not be too tight around your baby's neck. If this is the case and the shirt is pulled from the back slightly when they are placed in their car seat or crib, it can choke them. It's best to avoid clothing that has a high collar or tight ribbon on the neckline. 
3. Don't Force the Fit: Not all newborn clothes are going to fit your newborn. After all, newborns are all different. This is why you should never force the fit. If the clothes aren't fitting easily, this means that it could be too tight for your baby, possibly cutting off circulation. Also, girl clothes tend to have proportions that are off since girl clothing is more intricate than boy clothing. If the top fits, but the bottoms are more difficult to get on, it's best to replace the outfit or only hold onto the top and not force the bottoms no matter how cute the outfit may be. 
4. Take Winter Coats Off in the Car: During the winter, it's important to dress your newborn warmly. However, when you get in the car, the puffy jacket needs to come off so that you don't have to adjust the seatbelt, which is unsafe since your newborn can simply slip out of the jacket in the event of a car accident leaving the car seat unable to provide them the protection that they are supposed to. With girl coats, you have to be especially careful of fur that's added to it. Some coats are made with fur that is loose on the coat and can become a choking hazard, as well.
